Richard Carrol Hodge

Richard Carrol Hodge, of Huntington, W.Va., went to be with his Lord on August 27, 2023. He was born on November 30, 1943 to the late Chester and Virginia Myers Hodge. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Hodge. Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cheryl Burks Hodge; his son, Scott (Pam); daughter, Valerie (Butch); and three grandchildren, Alexis, Cameron, and Carson. He was a graduate of Vinson High School and Marshall University. He was a faithful deacon and Bible teacher who truly loved the Lord, a high school teacher and college instructor of chemistry and physics, a coach of many sports, and a friend. He was the epitome of a life well-lived. He was a genuine man who “walked the walk and talked the talk.” He was known for his dry sense of humor and was a master of dad jokes. While battling the terribly cruel diseases of dementia and T-cell Lymphoma, struggling with memory loss, pain, and the ultimate loss of his independence, Richard remained steadfast in his faith, his sweet demeanor unwavering. Services will be conducted at the Reger Funeral Chapel in Huntington, W.Va., and officiated by Pastor David Lemming of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church where Richard attended faithfully until his health prevented him from doing so. Visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2023 from 4-6 pm at the Reger Funeral Home., Huntington. The family will receive friends at 10 am on Saturday, September 2, 2023 until the funeral ceremony begins at 11 am. There will be a procession to Woodmere Cemetery for a brief committal service after the funeral. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to Tri-State Life Care (Hospice), Alzheimer’s Association, or Daystar Mission at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church.
