Alice Mae Ash

ALICE MAE HOSE ASH, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the Village of Riverview Assisted Living Facility in Barboursville, W.Va., after a long battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born May 8, 1929, in Old Fields, W.Va., a daughter of the late Edna Smith Hose and Jesse James Hose. She was married to the late K. Richard “Dick” Ash. Surviving are sons James Richard “Dick” Ash and wife Robin of Huntington, Kevin Ash and wife Dianna of Ashland, daughter Kathy Ash Head and husband Chris of Hurricane; grandchildren Alicea Ash Lewis and husband Russ of Huntington , Keith Ash of Lexington, Ky., Katy Ash of Ashland, Ky.; her great-granddaughter Ella Lewis; her faithful Kitty Kat, “Sweety;” sisters-in-law Kathleen Polino, Louella Hose and Hazel Hose and numerous other relatives. There were several other people over the years that she loved deeply and considered, “one of her kids” (you know who you are). Preceding her in death where all eight of her siblings and a wonderful family friend, Charles Lee Buchanan. Alice was a graduate of Moorefield High School. During her life, she resided in Old Fields, Moorefield, Petersburg and Elkins before ending up in Huntington. She retired from the Cabell County Board of Education where she was employed as a secretary for many years serving at Buffington, Lincoln and then Spring Hill Elementary. She loved the kids at the schools and the many wonderful friends she meet that worked with her over the years. Many tummies where satisfied over the years through her wonderful cooking and her delicious Red Velvet and Italian Crme Cake. She was a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Reger Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Dr. Todd Adams. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va. Alice’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the Hospice and employees for their End of Life Comfort Care and to all the caring staff at the Villages at Riverview for their attentiveness, wonderful care and love that they provided to her over the past two years.
