Avis C. Marcum of Prichard, WV left her earthly home surrounded by family and friends on March 5, 2011 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born on December 8, 1923 in Ordinary, KY to the late Daisie and Benjamin Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband Hezekiah Marcum, a sister Martha M. Cupler, and several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. She is survived by her two children, Benjamin (Lauren) Marcum of Prichard and Linda (Eugene) Parsons of Wayne. She left the legacy of honesty and pride to her grandsons: Andrew (Brenda) Marcum, Jeremiah Marcum, Zachary Marcum (special friend Andrea Nelson) and Scott (Cassandra) Parsons. Additional survivors include three great grandchildren; Ben and Jacob Marcum, and Claire Parsons, two sisters Lavonne Mayo of Pataskala, OH and Lillian Horn of Massillon, OH, brother-in-law Noah Marcum of Collinsville, OK; a special niece Shirley (Ersel) Sias of South Point, OH; two very special care givers, June Bowen and Paulette Rakes and a host of family and friends. Mrs. Marcum was a member of the Buffalo Valley Baptist Church and was active in the Westmoreland Chapter NSDAR, where she held several offices and chairmanships. She served for many years as a volunteer at the Huntington VA Medical Center. She retired from the Huntington Regional Office and was previously employed at the Sylvania Plant and H.J. Hines Company in Huntington, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral Services for Mrs. Marcum will be conducted Monday, March 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Jayne officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
