BETTY ANNE ELLIS BRUCE, 73, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Hospice of Huntington. She was born January 1, 1936, in Lawrence County, Ohio, to the late Russell B. and Anna Smoot Ellis. Betty grew up in Proctorville, Ohio, and moved to Huntington in 1948. She graduated salutatorian of the 1953 class at Huntington High School, and also graduated from Wiseman Business College. She was the office manager for 20 years with Coffey Surgical Office in Huntington. Betty was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She was a devoted member of Second Presbyterian Church, and member of several service organizations, including Cabell Wayne Association of the Blind, the Teubert Foundation Board, and past president and emeritus member of Pilot Club of Huntington. She is survived by her husband, John R. Bruce, Jr., and son J. Robert Bruce, III and his wife Patti of Huntington, two grandchildren, John R. Bruce, IV and Lindsay Ann Marie Bruce; one sister, Jessie E. Fortner; sister-in-law, Rilla Bruce Kilver; and several nieces and nephews: Shirley Perego, Willa Jean Lusk, Russ Allen Fortner, Mike Fortner, Debbie Ferguson, Tammy Ballengee, Roberta Ackerman and John F. Kilver. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Second Presbyterian Church, Huntington, W.Va., by Rev. David Richards. Burial will follow in Woodmere Cemetery, Huntington, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Reger Funeral Home, Huntington. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, Cabell Wayne Association of the Blind (Building Fund), Pilot Club of Huntington, and the Second Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. The family would like to give a special thanks to the fourth floor-south Team 1 staff at St. Marys Hospital, and to the staff of Hospice of Huntington for their loving care and support. Mrs. Bruce will be taken to the church one hour before service.
