Betty Jean Gilkerson

Betty J. McAlister Gilkerson, 92, of Kenova, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Joe Pratt on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 12 pm at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington. Burial will follow in Dock's Creek Cemetery, Maple Hill Section. Betty was born on December 9, 1931 in Kenova, W.Va., a daughter of the late Robert B. McAlister and Ruby Gorst. She was a member of Church of Christ in Kenova, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 93 of Kenova. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Claude Gilkerson; a son, Claude Edward Gilkerson; a grandson-in-law, Dwayne Thompson; one brother, Robert McAlister; and a sister, Billie Hatten. SHe is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack R. (Cindy) Gilkerson; four grandchildren, Christy Gilkerson, Chad Gilkerson, Shelly (Sam) McQueen, and Claudia Thompson; eight great grandchildren, Makayla, Andrea, Megan, Stephan, Collin, Kyle, Justin, and Jake; three great great-grandchildren, Cannon, Carolyn, and Daisy; one sister, Emma May (Russell) Hurst of Ocala, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Becky McAlister; and several wonderful nieces and nephews and special friends.
