Billie Joe Smith

Billie Joe �B.J.� Smith, 77, of Kenova, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born June 23, 1932 in Sweetland, WV a son to the late Herbert Vernon and Pansy Amber (White) Smith. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired Pipefitter for Ashland Oil having worked for 40 years and was a member of the O.C.A.W. Local #3-214. Mr. Smith was an Elder at the Church of Christ in Ceredo and enjoyed helping others with love and compassion. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Stowers) Smith. To this union, were born three children, Mark and Marcy Smith of Herndon, VA, Duncan Smith of Kenova, and Vernon and April Smith of Woodstock, GA. Additional survivors include a sister, Charlene Cardea and seven grandchildren, Brittany Massenburg of Las Vegas, NV, Breanna Smith, Jacy Smith, Marissa Smith, Marinda Smith, Marlies Smith, and Connor Smith along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Danford Smith. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1pm Thursday at the Ceredo Church of Christ with Minister David Roach and Minister Don Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 Wednesday at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home.
