Catherine "Cathy" Frances Weiss, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Huntington on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Born on September 3, 1945, in Huntington, WV, Cathy lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service to her family, faith, and community.
Cathy was the beloved daughter of Ed and Beulah May. She is survived by her loving daughter, Amanda Weiss-McComas (Josh), and was affectionately known as “MiMi” by her cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel, as well as her step-grandchild, Jackson. Cathy is also survived by a very special sister-in-law, Sandy May, her nieces and nephew: Beckie Nourse (Tim), Ed May, and Karen Bishop (Mark), along with their children and grandchildren, for whom her love was immeasurable.
Throughout her life, Cathy was a woman of great strength and determination. After spending years working for the Railroad in Baltimore, she returned to her hometown, where she continued her professional career at Calgon Carbon. Cathy's hard work and dedication were integral to the smooth operations of the Calgon plant until she retired to focus on what she treasured most—her family and her faith.
A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Cathy’s deep faith was reflected in her service to others. She was a leader in many church activities, including leading Bible study and actively introducing others to the Catholic faith. Cathy was also a long-standing member and eventual president of the Cabell County Right to Life, dedicating countless hours to supporting their mission. In addition, Cathy was a beloved member and former president of the Catholic Daughters, where she continued to strengthen her church community through leadership and service.
Cathy’s generosity and love for others extended beyond the church. A talented knitter, she created thousands of scarves, mittens, and other items for those in need, raising funds for numerous charities and organizations in the region. Whether organizing bake sales or volunteering at the VA Medical Center, Cathy’s passion for helping others touched the lives of many in her community.
Services to honor Cathy’s life will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with visitation Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Liturgy from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Rite of Committal will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cathy’s name to Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, reflecting her lifelong commitment to supporting those in need.
