Charles Patrick “Charlie” Houdyschell Jr., 56, of Ona, W.Va., a devoted husband, son and brother, died May 24, 2022, in Huntington, W.Va., after a long battle with depression. He was born Dec. 9, 1965, in Huntington, the son of Charles and Mary Houdyschell. He was an attorney for more than 30 years, practicing primarily in the Parkersburg, Charleston, and Huntington areas. He worked for the West Virginia Division of Highways in Huntington. He previously worked for the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office representing the West Virginia Division of Corrections, and representing the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. He also had worked for himself and others in private practice. He began his career with the Wood County (W.Va.) Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He was a member of the West Virginia State Bar. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1984; Marshall University in 1988 with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science; and from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1991 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He was a strong man of faith, and was a founding member of the Shabbat Bible Study Fellowship in Ona. In addition, was a guest speaker and teacher of the Word at other fellowships, and shared his teachings on YouTube. He enjoyed traveling to locations around the world with his wife, friends and family. His travels took him to Israel multiple times, Egypt, Europe, New York City, Hawaii, Alaska, and most recently the Arctic Circle, and well as many other destinations. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary F. Houdyschell. Survivors include his beloved wife of 31 years, Jendonnae Lycan Houdyschell of Ona; father, Charles P. Houdyschell and his wife Sherrie of Huntington; four brothers, Timothy Houdyschell and his wife Gearldean of South Point, OH, Jonathan Houdyschell of Orlando, FL, David Houdyschell and his wife Amanda of Huntsville, AL, and Kenneth Houdyschell of Ironton, OH; and nieces and nephews, Jacob, Caleb and Lydia Houdyschell, all of Kenova, W.Va., who were particularly close to him; and Rachel, Sebastian, Josie, Lucas and Noah Houdyschell. Survivors also include many close friends, including Larry E. Anderson of Huntington; Reggie White of Culloden, W.Va.; Judy McElfish of Hurricane, W.Va.; Shabbat Bible Study Fellowship friends; three special lifelong friends, David Collins, Mark Duncan and Jon Sias; and many others too numerous to name. He also leaves behind his pets, Manli and Maxi. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Reger Funeral Home, Huntington. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Keith Johnson. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Wayne, W.Va.
