Donald L. McDowell, 89, of Huntington, WV entered into Heaven on Sunday, April 29, 2018. He was born on July 5, 1928 in Huntington to the late Jay and Anna Merle (Carter) McDowell and was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Ann Gibson. Don graduated from Huntington East Trade School in 1946; then served in the military during the Korean War. He began a career with IBM and retired after 36 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ceredo; a devout Christian who shared his faith with others by teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon and by living a Christian life so that others could see Christ. Don and his wife Dorothy were involved for many years in the Shoe Ministry which provided shoes for children in Wayne County. Don enjoyed photography, especially his collection of slides from his many trips to the Holy Land. His knowledge of the Bible came to life when he would share his photos: on one of his trips, he was baptized in the Jordan River. He also loved visiting the Outer Banks, NC where he enjoyed the pleasures of surf fishing with family and friends. Don always had stories and anecdotes he loved to share with others that would bring smiles to their faces. Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Ellen (Hutchison) McDowell: Sister: Juanita Heiner, and brothers, Jerry and Larry (Barbara). He is also survived by two daughters: Marsha(David) Blain and Lea Ellen Burton; three grandchildren, Courtney (Tony) Green, Andrew (Laura) Blain and Benjamin Burton; six great grandchildren, Reagan, Lucas and Logan Green and Levi, Luke and Landon Blain. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving is his feline friend, Deuce. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 5, from 11;00-1:00pm at the Reger Funeral Home with a celebration of his life in the Reger Chapel at 1:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Spring Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor Rodney Hale. The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland of Riverview for the kindness and care they provided during his recent illness. As PaPa would always say: “Too-da-loo” Contributions may be made to the Shoe Ministry at 1st Baptist Church Ceredo, 448 Main Street, Ceredo, WV 25507 Online condolences may be made to the family at www.regerfh.com
