Donald Ray Ward

DONALD RAY WARD, 89 of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2016, at his residence. He was born December 26, 1926, in Huntington, a son of the late Rev. John Floyd and Zula Mae Perdue Ward. He was a US Navy veteran, having served in WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from Buffalo High School class of 1944 and held degrees in Finance from Marshall College class of 1960, and Marshall University class of 2012 (honorary degree at age 85). He held many positions in the financial world including bank teller First Huntington National Bank, Huntington, W.Va.; vice president Cocoa National Bank, Cocoa, Fla.; comptroller First National Bank of Merritt Island, Merritt Island, Fla.; regional director of Economic Development Administration (Dept. of Commerce); he was also in the “Who’s Who of Colorado” 1976 edition. Donald was a distributor of Kingsberry Homes. He resided in Colorado for 34 years and in Florida for 10 years and started many churches there. He had duel memberships in Huntington Christian Church, Huntington and Sharon Christian Church, West Palm Beach, Fla. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by five siblings, Charles C. Ward, Jean Ward Chapman, James D. Ward, David G. Ward and Bobby L. Ward. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Helen Dolores Fitzpatrick Ward; two daughters Cathy L. Ward Riggs of Huntington and Donna S. Ward-Panuco of Boynton Beach, Fla; three granddaughters, Dr. Jennifer Renae Riggs of Rio Rancho, N.M., Brooke Lynne Riggs-Moore and Whitney Riggs, both of Huntington and three great-grandchildren, Jasmine Aaryanna Moore, Gavin Ray Hensley and Liam Donald Sexton, all of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Huntington Christian Church by Pastor Bob Huron and Pastor Randall Robertson. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Kenova. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Reger Funeral Home and from noon until service time on Wednesday at the church. Condolences may be made to the family at www.regerfh.com.
