Dr. Guy G Goodell

June 19, 1941 — December 19, 2023

Dr. Guy G. Goodell, Pastor of Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church in Hudson Falls, NY, passed on to his Heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on December 19, 2023, at 82 years of age. Guy was born to Jotham and Hazel (Coppedge) Goodell on June 19, 1941, in Jacksonville, FL. As a young man, he was called to his life’s work in ministry and was devoted to that calling until he was summoned Home to his Heavenly Father.

After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1958, Guy enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for four years. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN, studied at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX, earned a Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, and a Doctorate degree from Landmark Baptist College in Haines City, FL. While attending Tennessee Temple, he met his wife, Jean (Smith) Goodell. They were married June 19, 1964, and have served as a ministry team for 59 years, 45 of which have been in Hudson Falls at Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church and Christian School.

In the 1970s, Guy pastored St. John’s Baptist Church in Frankfort, KY, and went on to build Frankfort Baptist Tabernacle and Christian School. The building of this Christian school led to a court battle with the state of Kentucky that eventuated in a victory in the U.S. Supreme Court securing freedom of education for Christian schools across the United States.

Guy’s ministry expanded across the globe in the Haiti Ministry and Bibles for Russia. He travelled to various locations to assist in building churches and distributing Bibles. He taught theology at the Seminary of the Yurals in Katherineburg, Russia, to educate Christians and train future pastors to carry these ministries forward, so they continue today.

To support his family during his years of ministry, Guy worked in various occupations. He taught English at Carson Newman University, the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University, theology at Beth Haven Baptist College in Louisville, KY, as well as teaching counseling, English, and theology at Landmark Baptist College in Florida, English at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, VT, and Bible studies at Greater Glens Falls Baptist Academy and College. He served as an EMT for several local rescue squads in and around Hudson Falls. He also officiated basketball games and umpired many baseball games.

Guy enjoyed family days, music, travel, the ocean, writing, teaching, and flying airplanes. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior and lived that example for others every day. Dr. Goodell leaves behind a legacy of numerous writings and publications, including pamphlets, articles in The Baptist Bread, sermon videos and several books to teach and encourage others in their walk with Christ.

Guy is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean (Smith) Goodell; daughter, Miriam Enman; son, Greg (DeAnn) Goodell; granddaughter, Elise (Sam) Mansfield; grandsons, Brandon and Nathan Goodell; soon-to-arrive great grandson, Jackson Mansfield; sister, Gay Johnstone; sister-in-law, Mary (Jack) Ferman; several nieces and nephews and numerous church family.
