Dr. Maria-Tulia Gomez-Avila, 90, of Huntington, died Thursday, August 13 at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was a Professor of Spanish Literature at both Marshall University and Ohio University (Southern Campus). Proceeding her in death were her parents, Marco-Aurelio Gomez-Medina and Maria-Luisa Avila-Roa. She is survived by a brother, Jose Naftali Gomez-Avila of Bogota, Columbia and a nephew Jose N Gomez-Saenz of Loxahatchee, FL along with three other nieces and nephews in Columbia. A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church by Rev. Fr. Douglas Ondeck. Tulia loved reading, particularly, the Scriptures, singing in various local choral groups, and babysitting for the families of Church members and friends. Whenever possible she traveled extensively throughout Europe and Central America. Besides her native Columbia, she enjoyed visiting historical sites throughout Italy.
