Elfriede Irma Smith

Elfriede I. Smith 83 of Huntington, WV passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House surrounded by family and friends. She was born on January 28, 1940 in Berlin, Germany the daughter of the late Wilhelm Walter Wolke and Marie Emilie Turk Wolke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her daughter, Marina Fenstermaker. Elfriede immigrated to the US and gained her citizenship in 1965. She worked in the field of ophthalmology for 30 years as the right hand to Dr. Albert Esposito and Dr. Joseph Locascio. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Harold W. Smith. She is mother to Robert and Shannon Reach, Connie and Roger Estep, Jimmy and Lois Barber, and Tina and Mike Watts. She is also survived by her sister, Ingeborg Brauer; grandchild, Courtney Reach-Sweeney and spouse, Meghan Sweeney; great grandchildren, Landry Reach- Sweeney and Teague Reach-Sweeney. Honorary grandkids: Patrick and Giuliana Kelly. Son-in-law, Jeff Fenstermaker; and honorary son, Thomas Wolke; and her beloved dogs, Fancy and Peanut. She was known to everyone as “Omi” and loved by so many and will be greatly missed. Friends may call from 12:00pm until service time on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Reger Funeral Home, Huntington, WV. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Reger Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Smith Rigg Cemetery.
