Elizabeth Shaffer Lumpkin, 98, of Huntington, widow of Forest Lumpkin, died Jan. 29 in Madison Park. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Shirley Lumpkin, granddaughters Jennifer and Mary, and granddog Ananda-Miranda, and her special “secret” friend Wilma Topping. She loved good food, cooking (but not cleaning up), traveling, her cottage life at Keuka Lake New York, golf, bridge, swing music, chocolate, good white wine and good champagne (one glass at 5 p.m. every day for 25 years), and a good laugh. Most of all she loved her husband of 50 years, Forest, her daughter Shirley, her granddaughters Mary and Jennifer, and her two West Highland terrier granddogs Tippy and Ananda-Miranda. During her long and full life she made time to found and to work hard to nurture the Meals on Wheels Program in Elmira, New York, which remains a flourishing program today, providing home delivered meals to those who need both the food and the companionship of the deliverer. She cherished her membership in the bridge group Foxy Ladies, holiday and birthday celebrations, and dinners out with her Huntington friends and family. One of the last things she said was how much she remembered those times and how quickly it all went by. Her Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Reger Funeral Home, Huntington, Tuesday Feb. 3 from 6-8 p.m. We invite you to bring or send or write on the spot a remembrance, memory, or story about Elizabeth. Ms. Beth Darby will officiate. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, you may donate to one of Elizabeth’s causes: Little Victories, the Humane Society, Hospice of Huntington, or the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OVEC). The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at Madison Park who made such a wonderful life for her this past year.
