Elner Joyce Woods

Elner "Joyce" Woods, 78, passed away, December 27, 2018 in Huntington, W.Va. Joyce was born on November 2, 1940 to Roy Cecil and Mary Williams in Wichita Falls, Texas. Her family lived in Fort Worth, Texas until Joyce was 12, when they moved to Los Angeles, Calif. She graduated from Jordan High School in Long Beach, Calif., in 1958. In 1961 she metand married a U.S. Navy sailor from West Virginia, William Lee "Bill" Woods. They lived in Paramount, Calif., for many years where they had two children, Walter Jackson and Rachel Marie. Joyce was involved in many volunteer activities with her children, their school and church. Bill passed away in an accident at work at age 36 in 1978. Soon thereafter, Joyce and Rachel moved to Parker, Ariz., to be near Joyce's parents. In the early 1990's she moved to Kingman, Ariz., to be near her daughter. In 2010, she decided to move to West Virginia, where she remained until her death. She is survived by her brother, Roy Williams (Matt St. George) of Los Angeles, Calif.; her son, Walter (Linda) Woods of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada; her daughter, Rachel (Paul) Gutekunst of Huntington, W.Va.; her grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, and Emily Woods of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her paretns, Roy and Mary Williams; her husband, Bill Woods; and a son, William Patrick Woods. She will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2018 at 11 am at Crosspoint Community Church. 4720 Waverly Road, Huntington, W.Va., 25704.
