Gary Pennington Bates

Gary Pennington Bates, 74, of Catlettsburg, KY passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center. Gary was born November 23,1943 in Ashland, KY; a son of Charles Manuel Bates and Irene Haskell (Alley) Bates. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Manuel Lee Bates. He leaves behind to mourn his loss his daughter, Carla Bates-Smith; two sons, Bo Evans and Shane (Amber) Evans; 8 Grandchildren: Ricky Parsons Jr., Shawn Parsons, Matt Bates, Katelyn Smith, Bailey Evans, Devin Evans, Lenzie Evans, Emma Evans and Jackson Evans; his wife of 30 years, Janet Evans and a host of other family members and friends. He was the owner of Bates Speed Shop. He had a need for speed and loved NASCAR, all types of race cars and speed boats. He was a people person and loved to laugh. He especially loved his brothers in arms at the American Legion in Kenova, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services.
