Gregory Dale Wheaton

Gregory Dale Wheaton, 76, of Huntington, husband of Connie Fraley Wheaton, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.  He was born June 19, 1948 in Huntington, a son of the late Dorsey Ivan and Opal Irene Kinder Wheaton.  Greg was also preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and Garry Wheaton and his only son, Joshua Dale Wheaton.  Greg spent his years growing up in the Westmoreland area of Huntington and was a 1966 graduate of Vinson High School.  He was proud that as a teenager he attained status of Eagle Scout with his two brothers at Troop #0082 Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, and with his dad as a leader it made for many fond memories.  Greg was a veteran of the US Navy during the Vietnam War, and felt fortunate to spend his Navy service time with his brother Larry and several friends on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) aircraft carrier.  Later he went to work for C&O Railroad and retired as Signal Foreman with CSX in June 2008 BRS Local 136.  An avid Marshall University football fan, if Greg wasn't at the game he was watching it on tv to cheer on The Herd.  Greg was loved by many and always made fishing friends in Michigan and New York to fishing beaches and piers, or deep sea fishing from Virginia Beach, the Outer Banks, NC, to many spots in Florida.  Lake Cumberland in Jamestown, KY, was a favorite quick getaway for Striper fishing, that he loved to cook and share with his family and friends.  Along with his wife, those left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Jennifer Jo Wheaton Stevens; daughter in law Jessica Wheaton; grandsons Joshua Jarred "Jabo" Wheaton (Taylor Alfrey), Dorsey Ivan Wheaton, II (Angela France), Marshall Gibson Wheaton, Taylor Glenn-Mickel Stevens (Harley); additionally, his step daughter from his first marriage, Amy Owen and her son Jonah Meek, and missing him from Texas, a beloved nephew Gabriel Wheaton.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Tuesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington, by Pastor Jerry Matt.  Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington.  Friends may call from 11 am until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Condolences may be made at www.regerfh.com.
