Gwinn L. Akers, 77, of Kenova, WV, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Edith Adkins Akers, on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Dale Maddy. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova, WV. He was born May 5, 1935 in Wayne County, WV a son of the late Leonard Akers and Blanche Fortner Tolbert. He was a truck driver and an employee of Unijax. Gwinn was a veteran of the US Army. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his step father John W. Tolbert. Survivors include a son Timothy Gwinn Akers; four daughters and two sons in law Debbie and Larry Hutchison; Gwendolyn Graham; Delores Scarberry and Reyna and Dale Maynard; two step daughters and spouses Gloria and Jimmy McCoy and Georgia and Mike Lawhon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister and brother in law Delores and Don Salyers and his cat “Frosty”. The family would like to thank the staff of the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington for their care and support. American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, of which he was a member, will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from noon until 2 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home.
