Harry Thomas Hart, 79 of Huntington WV went home to be with his Lord on September 21, 2019. The son of Jessie Jordan Hart & Thomas W. Hart he was preceded in death by his siblings Walter Hart and Nellie Beach. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Helen J., his five children Melanie (Mike) Chapman, Robin Workman, Tommy (Wendy) Hart, Ana Smith, and Richard (Malissa) Richmond, eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, sister Margaret Smith and many nieces and nephews. He lived a life of service starting with 5 years in the US Army serving in the 101st Airborne during a time which overlapped with the Vietnam War. It continued through 25 years with the Huntington Fire Department where he retired and then continued with his service to the City of Huntington as a 911 dispatcher. Finally, it was completed throughout 36 years of loving, faithful servanthood at Cross Roads Methodist Church. He was a friend to everyone with a mischievous sense of humor, a zest for life, and was always a willing hugger. He was gentle and caring, a willing hand to help with a loving heart and sage advice. His many hobbies included square dancing, camping, and fishing in his younger years, reading Westerns, being an avid golfer, singing in the choir and directing the Maundy Thursday play “The Living Last Supper” in his later years. He was the family chef and a fix everything/do anything kind of father and grandfather. He served in leadership roles throughout his life and went on several missions trips across the country while working with the church youth group - his favorites included Red Bird Mission in Kentucky and helping in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. As a retiree he loved his time with the church’s September Club and United Methodist Men’s group, and his HFD retiree breakfast was a highlight of his month, but his favorite thing to do was to pull off a deadpanned pull-your-leg joke. Most importantly, he was a devoted family man who let you know you were loved and would be protected as long as he lived. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:30 on Monday September 30 at Cross Roads United Methodist Church (3146 Saltwell Rd., Hgtn. WV 25705) followed by Celebration of Life services at 6:30. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cross Roads UMC would be appreciated so he can continue to support the work with youth and missions that he so dearly loved in life. Reger Funeral Home of Huntington is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be made to the family at www.regerfh.com .
