James Edward "Jim" Mayo

JAMES EDWARD 'Jim' MAYO, 66, of Proctorville, Ohio, entered into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, September 20, 2004, at St. Mary?s Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Church of God with his special friend and former Pastor Larry Mobley and Pastor Vondie Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. He was born December 7, 1937, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a son of the late Leslie and Rema Sadie O?Dell Mayo. He was raised in the Harveytown area of West Huntington. He began working at his father?s store, Mayo?s Grocery on Harvey Road at a very young age and was a graduate of Huntington High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Ann Mayo. He was married to his devoted wife, Phyllis, for over 49 years. He started working for Gould Batteries at age 18, where he achieved the title of Plant Superintendent. He left and went to American National Rubber, where he achieved the position of Assistant Plant Manager. He later went to Calgon Carbon Corporation and then to Rubberlite, Inc., where he worked in the capacity of Maintenance Management and retired from both places. Jim was a member of Crescent Masonic Lodge #32 AF&AM of Ceredo, Scottish Rites Bodies and held the honor of a 32nd Degree Mason. He also held the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the NRA. He was a member of the Trinity Church of God, where he sang in the choir and had many wonderful friends. He loved fishing, golfing, Marshall football and being around his family and sharing time together. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, and his five children, James Allen and wife Stephanie Mayo of Proctorville, Ohio, Gregory Mayo of Proctorville, Ohio, Dennis Mayo of Huntington, Pam Mayo of Huntington, Beverly Davis and husband John of Proctorville, Ohio; his grandchildren, James Bradley Mayo and fiance Deeanna Meadows, and Brittany Mayo of Proctorville, Ohio, Christina (Mayo) Eaches and husband Jason of South Point, Ohio, Ryan Mayo and Whitney Mayo of Culpepper, Va., Jeff Simpson of Fairmont, W.Va., Joshua Davis of Huntington, W.Va.; his great-grandchildren, James Cameron Mayo of Proctorville, Ohio and Breanna Logue of Dunbar, W.Va. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jerry Mayo (Myrtle), Gail Brown (David), both of Huntington, Leslie 'Rusty' Mayo (Brenda) of Proctorville, Ohio, Sheena DeBord (Raymond) and John T. Mayo (Donna) Mayo, both of Barboursville, W.Va., as well as a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. The family would like to give special thanks to Julie Ross and all who cared for him in his illness. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Home. Mr. Mayo will be taken to the Trinity Church of God on 27th Street and Third Avenue one hour before services. Crescent Lodge #32 AF&AM of Ceredo, W.Va., will conduct Masonic graveside rites. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers, Jeff Mayo, Brian Mayo, Bubby DeBord, Matt Brown, Justin Mayo and Matthew Cook.
