James Samuel Hardwick

February 2, 1917 — August 19, 2011

James Samuel Hardwick (Sam) 94, of Ceredo, West Virginia husband of Rosalee Hardwick, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday August 19th. He was born February 2nd,1917, in Mill Creek, West Virginia, son of James Samuel and Florence Elizabeth Hardwick Medley. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the South Pacific. Upon his discharge from the military he became and remained and hardworking and dedicated member of his community. He was one of the oldest members of the First Baptist Church of Ceredo. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. In addition to his wife Rosalee of 69 years, he is survived by a son, Samuel E. Hardwick and daughter-in-law Bertha preceded in death of Huntington, and their sons, Chris Hardwick (Robin) and Greg Hardwick also of Huntington. His daughter and son-in-law Patty and Larry Fowler of Florida and their children, Kim Griffith (Dave) and their children Brandon and Justin. Angie Dean (Bobby) and their son Caleb. Also surviving are great-great grandchildren Aidan and Lillian Griffith. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, August 22nd from 6-9p.m. at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home, Ceredo, West Virginia. The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 23rd at 1:00p.m. at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with graveside services with military honors to follow at the Crescent Hill Cemetery.
