Jay Wilson Brown, Jr. 3/1/52 – 9/17/18 Jay Wilson Brown, Jr., 66, of Huntington, died Monday morning in his home with his wife Charlotte and son Patrick by his side. A graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School and Marshall University, Jay began his teaching career in 1977 at Crum High School and taught West Virginia History at Buffalo Middle School from the time the school opened in 1979 to the present day. At the time of his death, he was embarking on his 42nd year of teaching. Throughout his life, Jay was known for his sense of humor. With a booming voice, a quick wit and a hearty laugh, Jay was a man who never met a stranger and wanted everyone he met to feel important and cared for. He was a man devoted to his family, who loved his community and enjoyed oral history and studying the local history of Wayne County. Charlotte, his wife of more than 40 years, likens their marriage to “a long, comfortable conversation that was always too short.” Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Lorene Brown of Kenova. He is survived by his wife Charlotte, his sons Adam of Washington, DC and Patrick of Huntington, his daughter Sarah and son-in-law Daniel of Cheyenne, WY, his aunt June Shannon of Kenova, his sister-in-law C’Ann Riley and her husband Phil of Glen Dale, WV and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Liz Ryder and the Buffalo Middle School family, the physicians and staffs of Dr. Aamir Cheema, Tina Hill, DNP, Dr. Richard Del Checcolo, Dr. Matthew Hofeldt, and Dr. Shehata. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Recovery Point of West Virginia, Jay W. Brown Memorial Fund, 900 20th Street Huntington, WV 25703. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Father Doug Ondeck. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home.
