Jeanne Chaffin

Jeanne Chaffin, 75, of Huntington passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Jeanne was born on August 17, 1948 in Lincoln Park, Michigan a daughter of Jackie Burke Sowards of Morristown, Tenn. and the late George Sowards of Morristown, Tenn. Jeanne graduated from Lincoln Park HS in January 1966 where she participated in the school choir and school plays. She then attended and graduated from Pikeville College (now University of Pikeville) in 1970 with a Bachelor's in Education. Jeanne was a secretary for Fabricon in Lincoln Park, Mich., secretary for Zerkle Trucking Company in Barboursville, WV, a teacher in Florida and Crete, Greece, she worked at J.P. Taravella High School in Coral Springs, Fla. She was also a secretary for the Clark County Board of Education, in Winchester, KY, and was a Tax Preparer and Office Manager for H&R Block in Lavalette for almost 30 years. She is loved by all and was a second mom to hundreds of band students for over 40 years. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandfather and grandmother, Manuel and Docia Burke of Virgie, KY. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband Thomas R. Chaffin, whom she married on February 25, 1978. She is also survived by her daughter, Christa (Chaffin) Fyre of Martin, Tenn.; son, George Chaffin of Hurricane, W.Va.; three grandsons, Brayden Frye (13), Keller Chaffin (6), and Colson Chaffin (5); and a sister Janice (Sowards) Blackburn of Morristown, Tenn. A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Friday, June 28, 2024 from 6-9 pm at the Spring Valley High School. All are invited, welcome, and encouraged to come and share their beautiful memories. In place of flowers or gifts, all are encouraged to make a donation to the American Cancer Society. There will be a QR code and link to donate at the Celebration of Life.
