John Raymond Akers

Our beloved father, John Raymond Akers, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 10,2024, at the age of 84. He was born December 24, 1939, in Ivel, KY, a son of the late Woodrow Akers and Huldia Burchett. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Roxie Akers; children, Laura Swain (Steve), John Akers, Rhonda Akers, Heather Marzolf (Trevor); grandchildren, Sarah Willis (Josh), Kristin Butler (Kevin), Amanda Hoschar, Shanna Perry (Jacob), Alexis and Olivia Imes, Cole and Blake Marzolf; and ten great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his sister Margaret Boyd and brother-in-law, Hazie Boyd and multiple half brothers and sisters.

He lived his story and there is no way to encapsulate that in a paragraph or two. A great husband, then a dad, a grandfather that loved and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His passion for family, the storytelling, helping others, fishing, boating, hunting, being the first to wish you happy birthday, and his words of “Love you More”. He lived big and loved much.

Funeral services will be held December 14, 2024, at Kenova Church of Christ. Visitation 10:00 am-11:00 am, funeral service 11:00 am-12:00 pm, final resting place Spring Valley Memorial Gardens.
