John Wesley Tolbert

February 13, 1915 — May 11, 2010

John W. Tolbert, 95, formerly of Kenova, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Kings Daughters Medical Center. Mr. Tolbert was born February 13, 1915 in Sissonville, W.Va., to the late Ward and Julia Wilkenson Tolbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanch Tolbert, and brothers, Andrew, Thomas, Squire, Cecil and William. Mr. Tolbert was retired from Columbia Gas. He was a Kentucky Colonel and loved to fox hunt. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie (Larry) Hutchison and Delores (Don) Salyers; son, Gwinn (Edith) Akers; nine grandchildren including a special grandson Dr. Larry D. Hutchinson, Jr. (Rileigh) and their precious daughter Gabrielle. Dad adored her, and his face lit up when he saw her; and several great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include two nephews, Kermit Tolbert and Kenneth Tolbert. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Branham officiating. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home.
