John Wyman Graves

John Wyman Graves, 89 of Ceredo, WV passed away on November 4, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at the Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 11 A.M. with burial to follow at Spring Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors performed by the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, WV and the U.S. Army. Visitation will be from 6 � 8 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the funeral home. He was born on August 26, 1924 in Middletown, CT; a son of Harold and Mildred Graves. John joined the Army in 1942 in State College, PA. He trained as an Aviation Cadet and then trained as a Rifleman and Cannoneer and was assigned to Co. C, 397th Infantry, of the 100th Infantry Division on the Seventh Army Front in the European Theater in World War II. He specialized in the carbine and used hand to hand fighting techniques and received the Combat Infantry Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. John married Necia Ann Carleton who preceded him in death but together they had eight children who survive him: Gary (Dee) Graves, Greg (Jeana) Graves, Kathy (Bruce) Fisher, Emily (Dave) Hoschar, Beth Maynard, Sarah (Brian) Lester, Brenda Graves and John �Chip� (Andrea) Graves. Also surviving is his brother Daniel Graves of Portland, OR and fifteen grandchildren: Cam, Kirk, Jeff, Steven, David, Rachel, Nathan, Jamie, Jeremy, Chris, Anne Marie, Jonathan, Laura, Julia and Daniel and 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
