Karen Kelly Pruitt, 71, of Hurricane, was lovingly called home to our Lord on Tuesday, June 25th, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington.
Born on May 16, 1953, in Jackson, MS, to J.B. and Nan Kelly, Karen was a vivacious and talented soul with a big personality that touched countless lives through her love of music. She graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, MS in 1971 and pursued her passion for music with a degree from Belhaven University in Jackson.
Karen's lifelong love of music blossomed into a beautiful ministry that spanned over 40 years. She began her journey at Covenant Christian Church in Jackson, MS, and later moved to Huntington, WV, where she became the music director and pianist at Beverly Hills Baptist Church, which later became part of New Baptist Church. Karen’s God-given talent for playing the piano was her way of glorifying God throughout her career.
Karen is now reunited in heaven with her parents, J.B. and Nan Kelly, and her father-in-law, Grizz Pruitt. She leaves behind her loving husband, Bob Adams, her cherished daughter, Erin Mace (Jason), and her adored grandsons, Jackson, Colton, Hunter, and Bentley. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Lauren Adams, her three beloved brothers, Richard Kelly (Gina), David Kelly (Amy), and Scott Kelly (Tana), and her treasured nieces and nephews, Pat, Neill, Christian, Alex, Nick, Austin, and Brandon, along with several great-nieces and nephews. Karen also leaves behind multiple cherished friends whom she loved dearly.
Karen’s legacy of love and music will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. We find peace in knowing that she is now dancing, singing, and playing the piano for God, the most cherished audience of all. Though we miss her presence here with us, we take comfort in knowing that she is healed and happy, joyfully embracing the music she loved so dearly.
A memorial service will be held for Karen on Monday, July 1st at 1:00pm at New Baptist Church located at 610 28th Street in Huntington. A visitation will be held at the church from 11:00am until the time of the memorial service. A graveside service will immediately follow the service at Woodmere Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Donations can be made via their website: www.hospiceofhuntington.org, by mail at 1101 6th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701, or by calling 304-529-4217.
