Madelean Vance

Madelean Vance, 91, of Okeechobee Fla., and Huntington, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Lawn Wood Regional Medical Center, Fort Pierce, Fla. There will be a graveside service 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington, W.Va., conducted by Father Paul Yuenger. Madelean was born on August 9, 1925, in Huntington W.Va., the daughter of the late William Bryan and Rose Combs Napier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Paul Vance, brother Edgar Napier and son-in-law William “Bill” Carroll. Madelean graduated from Huntington High School and Robert Edwards School of Modeling in Los Angeles, California. She attended Marshall College and Boston University. She was a bookkeeper and manager of the Huntington Athletic Club, a retired office manager at the Guthrie Memorial Hospital and a co-owner of the Lone Oak Tavern. She was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol, an avid sports car enthusiast and boater. She was a member of Jaguar of North America, TOSCE: The Organization of Sports Car Enthusiasts, Fort Pierce, Fla., Yacht Club, the Stardust Dance Club and past president, the Millennium and Okeechobee Dance Clubs, the American Legion Post 16 and a lifetime member of Post #9788 in Okeechobee, Fla. She was past president of the Aqua Garden Club and chairwoman for the WV Council of Garden Clubs. She was a beautiful lady who enjoyed fashion, gardening and ballroom dancing. She is survived by her daughter Pamela V. Carroll; two grandsons, William T. Carroll III and Mark Vance Carroll; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Linda Napier; and nephews and niece Larry, Rick and Teresa. Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Fatima School.
