Mark T. Lewis, 68, peacefully passed away at home on August 29, 2018. Mark was born in Pocatello, Idaho and was predeceased by his parents Vera Harwood and Edward Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Christine Pauken Lewis. He leaves behind his siblings Gerald (Betty) Lewis, Jack (Jan) Lewis, Kathy Lewis Browne, and Dennis Lewis. His extended family also mourns his loss, including Pat and Trudy Pauken, James and Bev. Pauken, Ann and Kenny Hoffman, Meg Pauken and Kevin Ortner and Jennifer Pauken and Jenn Estes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who all had a special place in his heart. Mark studied German as an undergraduate at Idaho State University. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Berlin. Later he earned a MA in Education at West Virginia University. He taught for more than 30 years and most of his teaching career was spent in Cabell County Schools. Mark had many interest and passions and a lifelong love of learning. He loved being outdoors and exploring nature. He enjoyed learning new languages and he was an avid reader. His favorite authors include Jules Verne and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. His knowledge of history was vast. Mark was thankful to the doctors, nurses and staff at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospice of Huntington. They provided excellent care and comfort during his journey. In keeping with his devotion to education, Mark donated his body to the Human Gift Registry at Marshall University. Family and friends will celebrate Mark’s life at noon on Saturday September 22, 2018 at Pioneer Hall at Heritage Farm. Rev. Jacque Parlato will officiate.
