Mattie Ann Mccreery

December 11, 1922 — September 19, 2016

Mattie Ann McCreery, 93, formerly of Huntington and Ceredo WV, passed from this life and went home to God, on September 19, 2016, while living at the Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home, South Point, Ohio. Hers was an abundant life well lived; she was a wonderful mother to her children, who loved her dearly, and was adored by all her friends and relatives. Services will be conducted at 2 pm Monday at the Reger Funeral Chapel, 1242 Adams Ave., Huntington, by Rev. Timothy S. Dixon Sr. Pastor of the First Congregation United Church of Christ. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call from 3 pm until 5 pm Sunday at the Reger Funeral Home and from 1 pm until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Mattie was born Mattie Ann Rowsey on December 11, 1922 in Huntington, WV and was one of five children born to Fitzhugh Lee and Minnie Moxley Rowsey and part of a family of eight children in the household. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles N. McCreery Sr., three sisters, Roberta Paules, Geraldine Crawford and Dorothy Chapman and four brothers: John Rowsey, Jack Rowsey, Ivan Chapman and Teddy Chapman. She is survived by her children Becky ( Donald) Muth of Ashburn, Virginia.; Karen ( Robert) Mendell of Sammamish, Washington; Vicki ( John) Hagy of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Charles ( Leigh) McCreery II of Milton, West Virginia and her seven wonderful grandchildren: Frank, Andrea, Laura, Colin, JD, Charlie and Jake, all of whom she loved and adored. She also has four great grandchildren; Miriam, Shay, Harley and Jack. At the time of her passing she was expecting two more great grandchildren. She was a former member of First Congregational Church of Huntington where she attended from childhood until 1996 when she then began attending First Congregational Church of Ceredo. She loved her church homes, her Christian Faith and all of the people who attended there. Mattie was employed by Star Furniture Company as a credit clerk for many years until her retirement in the mid 1980's. While her children were growing up in Westmoreland she was both a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She instilled a deep love of nature and reading in her children. Mattie and her late husband Charles moved from their Westmoreland home of over 20 years to South Point, Ohio where they spent their retirement years together until 2002 when, following the passing of her husband, she moved to Ceredo Manor. Mattie thoroughly enjoyed the 10 years she lived at Ceredo Manor and the family wants to thank all of her friends who might still be there--especially Carol Casto, the director. Ceredo Manor was truly a blessing at an important time in her life. The family also wishes to thank all the staff at Heartland of Riverview Nursing Home where she has lived since July of 2012. The care and attention she received there from all the staff and management are appreciated more than can be expressed in words.
