April 22, 1930 — April 7, 2017

Melvin Lee Houck, 86, of Huntington, passed away Friday April 7, 2017 at Madison Park, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Wednesday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Ralph Houck. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born April 22, 1930 in Huntington, a son of the late Mervin Allen and Elizabeth Conley Houck. Melvin was a 1950 graduate of Vinson High School and was a member of Jackson Ave. Church of God Holiness and Crook Chapel Church. He was a Veteran of the US Navy having served in active duty then came back to Huntington to serve at the US Naval Reserve Training Center and he retired from the VA Hospital, he was also a member of the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova. Melvin was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Crescent Lodge 32 AF&AM of Ceredo. His hobbies included painting, playing his banjo and crafting his dulcimers, building furniture, and working in his garden. he was known to his life-long friends as an artistic, musical, woodworking craftsman and an all around good fellow. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Marie Counts Houck, second wife Effie Mae Pickett Taylor Houck and a brother Ronnie Houck. Survivors include his daughter and son in law Mary Ann and James Michael Asbury; grandchildren Claude Michael Asbury and Molly Marie Asbury; great granddaughter Brittany Marie Asbury; brothers Eugene Ralph Houck, Gary Houck and Russell Houck; second wife Effie’s children David Taylor and Jim Taylor and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Reger Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family at www.regerfh.com. American Legion Post 93 of Kenova will conduct military graveside rites.
