Opal Chapman Cecil

Opal Chapman Cecil, 98, of Chesapeake, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Ralph Kelly on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington. Burial will follow in Cecil Family Cemetery, Catlettsburg, K.Y. Opal was born on May 9, 1925 in Huntington, W.Va. the daughter of the late Ivan and Anna Chapman. She was the former owner of the Circus Boy Restaurant of Huntington, an avid baker and enjoyed making ceramics. She was a member of the Lawrence County Senior Citizens Group, VFW 1064 Women’s Auxiliary and a Rosie the Rivetter in WWII. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Colbert Cecil, Jr. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Donna) Cecil of Proctorville, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Anna Marie (Nathan) Newman of Kannapolis, N.C.; six grandchildren, Sarah Beth Biser, David Robert Cecil, Jennifer Ann Cecil, Adam Scot Cecil, Jamie Marie Newman, and William Clark Newman; nine great grandchildren, Lucy Dew Hatcher, Daniel Cecil, Jacob Cecil, Rachel Cecil, Leah Cecil, Ryan Corrigan, Jack Corrigan, Karley Marie Newman, and Benjamin Cecil; and one great great grandchild, Esmerelda Newman Aguilar.
