Richard Todd Betts

RICHARD ?TODD? BETTS, 42, native of Huntington, WV and resident of Myrtle Beach, S.C. passed away Monday Jan. 22, 2007. He died at home in his sleep while awaiting a transplant, following a hard fought battle with chronic hepatitis. Born 6/6/64 to Charles R. and Ethel Betts of Westmorland, he was an Honors graduate of Vinson High School Class of ?82 and attended Marshall University, majoring in Business Management. A multi-sport athlete and avid follower of the Thundering Herd, he was a machine operator at Owens-Illinois and longtime owner of Betts Trucking Company of Huntington, WV. A Licensed Stationary Engineer, he was also an ASE Certified Master Mechanic. He loved racing, passing his skills on to his son, a highly accomplished third generation driver. Memberships included the NHRA, IHRA and PGA. Hobbies included playing lead guitar in several bands, much to the enjoyment of his many female fans. He hosted many wonderful parties. He ?retired? to Myrtle Beach, S.C. in 2005, while battling chronic illness. While there, he operated the First Tee Program, whose mission is providing a first exposure to golf for underprivileged children. He is survived by a loving son, Charles R. Betts II, a Marshall University freshman, his parents Charles and Ethel Betts of Westmorland, a brother and sister-in-law Jeffrey B. Betts, M.D. and Sara M. O?Hara, M.D. of Cincinnati and their daughters Sailor and Sanibel, grandmothers Cora Reed of Westmorland and Evelyn Snider of Barboursville and countless friends and family throughout the U.S. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Thursday at Reger Funeral Home, Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at 1PM Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Rev. Jerry Chapman. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Huntington, WV.
