Robert G. Adkins

Robert Garfield Adkins (Bob), 103, was carried away gently from his earthly home to his heavenly home, August 19, 2024, by the angels to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There to greet him was his wife Mildred, of 73 years of marriage, his son, Robert G. Adkins Jr., his grandson, Brian L. Skeens, his mother and father, Wilbert and Martha and all of his siblings, 3 brothers, Bernie, Moggie and Okie. and 6 sisters, Lelia, Lema, Leva, Geneva, Dorothy “Peachie”, and Pearl. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Friday at Sunshine Freewill Baptist Church by Reverend Bob Fowler, his son-in-law, and Pastor Jody Fortner. Burial will follow in Spring Valley Memory Gardens, Huntington. He was born May 4,1921 in Hager WV the son of the late Wilbert and Martha Adkins. Robert was a veteran of the US Army in WWII. He was a bumper polisher for Houdaille Industries until they closed in 1980 but continued to stay active working in the service of others helping with many construction projects especially at his church. He was a deacon since 1972 where he served several years at Prince of Peace FWB Church and continued serving at Sunshine FWB Church. He was a worker and always ready to serve wherever and whenever he could. Even in his later years he painted pictures to give to his family and friends. You may even see some of his paintings in doctor’s offices. He was a giver and a wonderful man. We will miss his smiling face and endearing ways. Survivors include daughter in law, Susan Adkins, two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen S.(Adkins) Skeens and Sharon K. (Adkins) and Bobby Fowler all of Huntington; grandchildren – Robert G. Adkins III, Tina Adkins Marquis, of Florida, Bobby Joe Fowler, Stephen Fowler (Mary), Amy Fowler May (Steve) and Jason L. Skeens (Tiffany) granddaughter-in-law, Mary Skeens; great-grandchildren Breanna L. Skeens Hogsett (Cody), Lily Adkins, Caleb Fowler (Taylor),Eli Fowler, Ryan Marquis, Jacob Skeens, Artie Caprino, Aubrey May, Liam Marquis, Blake May, Nathan Marquis, Mullady Fowler, Robert G “Qade” Adkins IV, Anthony Fowler, Stella Marquis, and Samuel Fowler, great-great grandchildren Jakoby Hogsett, Tayten Hogsett, Nolan Hogsett, Kenan Fowler and Georgia Fowler, several nieces and nephews, and a host of church family and friends. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family at www.regerfh.com
