Rosella Virginia Mcgown

Rosella Virginia McGown, 85, of Huntington, widow of Elder Sherman D. McGown, passed away Monday September 18, 2017 at Grayson’s Assisted Living, Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by David Messer. Burial will follow in Docks Creek Cemetery, Kenova, WV. She was born May 11, 1932 in Cabell County, WV, a daughter of the late William Carl and Lula Bates Smith. Rosella was a homemaker and a member of the United Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by grandsons Travis and Clayton Lucas; brothers Alvin, Bill, Bob, Wayne and Dave Smith and sister Connie Banks. Survivors include a son and daughter in law Sherman and Julie McGown; daughters and sons in law Virginia and Lewis Nelson, Rebecca and Norman Lucas, Julie and Don Collins and Sheri McGown; grandchildren Darron (Kathy) Nelson, Brad (Julie) Nelson, Evan (Kyla) Nelson, Greta (Roger) Sowards, Ashton McGown, Haley McGown, Richard (Bailey) Peyton, Dillon Collins and Kelli Ash; great grandchildren Riley Nelson, Garrett Nelson, Lily Sowards, Lucas Sowards, Parker Nelson and Farrah Rosella Sowards; siblings Jim Smith, Helen Thompson, Peggy McComas, Shirley Spurlock and Mary Chatterton and many of her children’s friends whom she treated as her own.
