Shelva Jean Dingess, 87, passed away peacefully at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in
Huntington, WV on the morning of Saturday, August 3ʳᵈ, 2024. She was born September 30ᵗʰ, 1936 in
Gamoca, WV to the late Clifford and Mildred Holstine. She was the daughter of a coal miner who
spent her early childhood in Fayette County, WV and later moved with her family to Huntington, WV.
Shelva was a graduate of Huntington High School Class of 1954 and worked at various Huntington
business staples such as Owens-Illinois Glass Company, Anderson Newcomb Department Store, and Big
Bear Grocery Store as a cake decorator. Upon the arrival of her first grandchild, she retired from
her working life and lovingly became known as “Mamaw.” She found great joy in caring for her
children and grandchildren and constantly reminded them how proud she was of their achievements.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David Dingess and brother, Richard Holstine. She is
survived by her daughters, Tamara Dingess and Kimberly Dingess Gibson; grandchildren, Amanda and
Hunter Gibson; sister, Peggy Nelson; and son-in- law, Mark Gibson. A private graveside service will
be held on Tuesday, August 6ᵗʰ, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to one of
Mamaw’s favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
