Sr. Mary Grace Barile, S.A.C., died April 1, 2024 after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Minnie A. Puccio Barile. She was the oldest of three children. She is survived by her two beloved brothers, Salvatore P. Barile of Milton, W.Va. and Philip C. (and Cheryl) Barile of Arnold, Md. and Logan Barile, her nephew.
Sr. Mary Grace entered the Pallottine Missionary Sisters on September 07, 1964, when the Sisters had their novitiate on McCoy Road. She took her first vows on August 15, 1967 at St. Mary’s Hospital Chapel and her final vows on August 15, 1973 in Florissant, Mo.
When the novitiate moved from McCoy Road to Missouri, Sr. Mary Grace was one of the founding sisters of Pallottine Formation and Renewal Center, Florissant, Mo. She was transferred back to Huntington in 1969, where she was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital doing bookkeeping. She received her BS/BA at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and returned to be Chief Cashier at St. Mary’s Hospital in 1988.
In 2017 Sr. Mary Grace was elected Provincial of Pallottine Missionary Sisters and was made President of Pallottine Health Services, Inc. With the selling of St. Mary’s Medical Center to Cabell Huntington Hospital, Sr. Mary Grace, as Vice President of Mission Integration, was a strategic member of the St. Mary’s team that helped our staff and employees during this transition.
Sr. Mary Grace had served the Pallottines and their ministries in the following ways: Board of Trustees for St. Mary’s Medical Center; Board of Trustees of Mountain Health Network; Board Chair for Pallottine Foundation of Huntington, Inc.; Board Chair for Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon, Inc.; Board of Trustees for Pallottine Renewal Center and Board of Trustees for St. Vincent Pallotti High School.
Sr. Mary Grace’s church family was the parishioners at St. Stephen’s Parish in Ona, W.Va. She had served on the parish council and was a member of the church choir.
Visitation will be at the Sisters’ Chapel in St. Mary’s Medical Center from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Anthony Benedict. St. Stephen’s choir will be facilitating the music. Rite of Committal will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pallottine Missionary Sisters Retirement Fund.
