Steven E. Wright, 78, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Cornerstone Hospital, Huntington. He was born March 25, 1945, in Montezuma, Iowa, to the late Lauren Wesley and Ruth Irene Peterson Wright. Steve’s 34 years of public service include 20 Years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and 14 Years with the Dept. of Defense. His leadership spanned roles at the Huntington District and also abroad in Kuwait and Iraq. He was awarded The Bronze Order of the De Fleury Medal, the highest honor awarded to civilians in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His daughter Lezlee affectionately says, "Steve was blessed by having a personality that made everyone feel comfortable and important, even strangers. He had a special way of calming others when they needed help and a gentility that erased all fears. He always had a humorous opinion and a unique way of making people feel good. People in the community loved to see Steve because of his heart of gold and kind nature. He genuinely cared about others and he made an effort to outwardly show his kindness." He is survived by his wife, Mahala Booten Wright of Huntington; daughter, Stephanie Wright Davis of Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren, Steven Mayer, Joshua Davis, Zachary Davis and Cassandra Davis; son, Steven Wright of Huntington, WV; granddaughters, Marlee Wright and Genevieve Wright; and daughter, Lezlee Lisi and husband Patrick of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Eva Lisi and Sawyer Lisi; and brother, Joseph Wright of Salt Lake City, UT. A private funeral service will be held in Iowa with only close family members present. Reger Funeral Home, Huntington, is assisting the family with arrangements.
