Thelma Naomi Preston

Thelma Naomi (Christian) Preston, passed away peacefully in her home on April 14, 2024, at the age of 95. She was surrounded in love by her husband, daughters and grandchildren. Born August 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Edward McKinley and Laura (Scarberry) Christian. Thelma was the ideal wife, mother and grandmother. She was always there, always listening, always understanding. Strong in faith, she gave wise answers to spiritual questions and lived what she taught. She always kept a comfortable and welcoming home, hosting family get-togethers with grace. Always creative, Thelma made clothes for her children and their dolls, curtains for the home, crocheted quilts, lace and many other beautiful things. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her husband of seventy-seven years as they walked the hills and hollows of their farm, square danced and practiced their yoga poses. They played dominoes, dice and mancala every morning after eating their oatmeal. She had a beautiful singing voice and would sing or harmonize on many old hymns and country songs. She laughed effortlessly and often, and it was easy to laugh along with her. She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Preston, daughters: Karen Rodgers (Rojay), Tamah Thea (Bob) Wells, Peggy Anna Preston (Tiller), daughter-in-law, Linda Vincent Preston. Grandchildren: Daniel (Alana) Rojay, Jarrod (Cassie), Benjamin (Jordyn), Joseph and Katie Rose Wells, Kaleb (Sylvia), Seth and Savannah Tiller (Ethan Marcum). Great-grandsons: Preston Tiller and Liam Wells. Siblings: Reva Freeman, Betty Irene Morris, Cay (Carol) Christian, Sue (Gary) Kremski. Sisters-in-law: Sally Dishun, Betty Ward, Janet Bailey, Sandy Moorehead, Betsy Gillette. Brothers-in-law: Jack, Joe, and Steve Preston and many treasured nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Rick Preston, cherished grandsons, Joshua and Michael Preston, and son-in-law, David Rojay. Siblings: Minnie Staley, Raymond and Ken Christian, Charlotte Maynard, Mary Preston, and Helen Norgard. Sisters-in-law: June Perry, Penny McKenzie and Mae Preston. Brothers-in-law: Edd and David Preston. Pall bearers: Kaleb and Savannah Tiller, Jarrod, Benjamin, Joseph and Katie Rose Wells. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Don Smith at 3pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Reger Funeral Home, Huntington. Burial will follow in Preston Ridge Cemetery, Prichard, W.Va.
