Thomas E. Ferrell, 64, of Huntington, W.Va., went home to be with his Lord, on April 8, 2011, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Tom was born July 12, 1946, in Burnwell, W.Va., the son of Charles and Mildred Hamilton Ferrell of Huntington. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry E. Ferrell. He is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Anita Ferrell; his parents; and his sister, Beverly Settle and her husband Johnny of Fayetteville, W.Va. Tom has one daughter, Laura Ferrell, whom he loved and adored; two step-daughters, Angie (Chuck) Kingery and April Ramey, who loved him very much. His five grandchildren, Kole, Emily, Nathan, Bella and McKenna, were very lucky to have such a wonderful "Pops." Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Ceredo, and loved to sing in the choir. His love for flying began in his teen years, and after getting his pilot's license, he went on to become a flight instructor. For years, Tom was a member of the Tri-State Airport Authority, where he served as treasurer. He was also a board member of Crescent Hill Cemetery. Tom was very instrumental in starting the Kentucky and West Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. It was very important to him to help the youth get involved in flying and helping the community. Tom graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1972. He then became a graduate of Marshall University with a Regent's degree in counseling. As founder and owner of the former Ceredo Mortuary, Tom generously helped many families. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. One of his finest qualities was his love of children, and they always returned that love. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Ceredo with Pastor Rodney Hale officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 12, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated, or donations may be made to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.
