Verna Blatt

Verna Garnet Midkiff Blatt, Born October 16, 1935, passed away May 11, 2018. Verna was a loving mother and friend. Viewing will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, May 13, 2018 at the Reger Funeral Home. A rosary service will follow at 4 pm on Sunday. Funeral Liturgy will be conducted by Msgr. Dean Borgmeyer and Msgr. Lawrence Luciana at 10:30 am on Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She in turn was well loved by the community where she spent her entire life. When her children were involved in league sports, she was a fixture on the sidelines supporting not only her own children, but all of the children as league mother. She ran the concession stand at League 3 for over 15 years. She wanted to be with her 'six kids' who she was so very proud of. They were her greatest accomplishment. She was proceeded in death by her sisters, Mona and Joanne and her brother, Ted. She is survived by her 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews and beloved friends. Philip and Paula Blatt, Barkley and Jacob. Jamie and Trish Blatt, Ryan, Zachary, Ashley, Noah and Elijah. David and Bonnie Blatt, Marisa, Tim and Terri Blatt, Amanda, Ainsley and Garrett. Vincent and Sherri Blatt, Tyler, Marybeth and Denver Whitmore, Jonathon, Samantha, Jordan and Madison. Verna was a devout Catholic and had a profound love for the Blessed Mother. She raised her children in the faith and was involved in many committees at St Joseph Catholic Church. She loved the 'party committee' that her beloved Msgr. Luciana headed up. She believed in the value of volunteering and encouraged her children to do the same. Verna loved Marshall University and the Thundering Herd. When you would see her out and about, she was usually sporting some sort of MU apparel. In lieu of flowers, please send contribution to St. Joseph in her honor. 'May the work I have done speak for me'. We will miss you always.
