Virginia Leigh Fulks Thacker, 82, of Huntington, W.Va. and Willow Wood, Ohio, soared from this Earth Thursday morning, October3, 2024 to at last join her husband, Johnny D. "Bit" Thacker of 50 years to stand and rejoice in the presence of their Lord and Their God. Leigh was born on September 4, 1942 in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Fenton H. and Mary B. Fulks. Surviving Leigh, is one brother, the Reverend William B. Fulks and his wife, JoAnne. Plus, one sister, Adah Fulks Liechty of Redlands, Calif. Leigh was also preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Reverend Doctor Harry M. Liechty, Jr., R. Gene Thacker, Donald G. Thacker, and Paul R. Thacker; and one sister-in-law, Geraline "Jerry" Thacker Holley.
Surviving Leigh are three sisters-in-law, Janice Thacker Mynes of Austin, Texas, Brenda A. Thacker and Sandee Gardner Thacker of Huntington, W.Va. Also surviving is one brother-in-law and wife, Dallas K. and Marlene P. Thacker of Huntington.Though "Bit" and Leigh had no children, they truly enjoyed and loved their many nephews and nieces, plus, their grandnephews and grandnieces.
After completing her studies from Marshall University, Leigh graduated Cum Laude with a degree in accounting. She joined the firm of Hayflich and Steinberg where she was employed for a number of years. From there, Leigh went to work at ACF as the Controller. When ACF closed, Leigh was appointed as the Director of Accounting for the Herald Dispatch. After working for the Herald Dispatch for a number of years, Leigh left the newspaper to work as a contractual employee at Special Metals. Finally, Leigh retired from working after almost 50 years.
Leigh was a lifetime church member where she served in various positions, sometimes at the same time. She was a Sunday school teacher, Choir Director, featured soloist and church treasurer. Leigh and her husband owned two farms and worked tirelessly maintaining and operating those farms up until her husband's death.
In keeping with Leigh's wishes, a graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at noon at Spring Valley Memory Gardens. Reverend Roger Pierce will officiate. Burial will follow. There will be no procession to the cemetery. At her request in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, 16319 Township Road 212S, Willow Wood, Ohio 45696.
