Wilbert Karney Armstrong, 81, of Ceredo, W.Va., passed away at his home with his loving family around him, on Monday, April 4, 2011. Karney was retired from Oglebay Norton Co., as office manager. He was a much-loved member of First Baptist Church of Ceredo, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was a former Ceredo City Councilman and Recorder and had previously been a member of El Hasa, Ceredo Crescent Lodge, and Beni Kedem. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., son of the late Elvie Thomas and Lola Matilda Sutton Armstrong. Karney loved his Savior and then his family, who include his devoted wife of 60 years, Frances; children Dianna Baron of Apex, N.C., Terry Armstrong of Huntington, Wilbert Armstrong of Huntington, Chuck Armstrong of Huntington, Matilda Naomi Bailey of Cary, N.C., and Julia Frances Bias of Katy, Texas. He was a special grandfather to 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren with one more to be added soon; and one brother, Russell Armstrong of California. Karney also leaves a special gardening friend, George Jessie. Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Ceredo on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rodney Hale officiating. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from noon until time of service. Family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donation to the First Baptist Church of Ceredo, P.O. Box 967, Ceredo, WV 25507. Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home is assisting the family.
