William Austin Rogers

February 26, 1921 — May 7, 2009

William Austin Rogers 88, of Ceredo went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Glasgow W.Va. where he had been residing for several months. Austin was a long time member of Central Church of the Nazarene in Huntington and was retired from Perry Norvell Shoe Factory. He also, served his country during World War II serving in the Navy. He was a member of the Kenova American Legion Post 93. Over fifty years he traveled and played piano with several quartets with his great love of using the talent God had given him. Another love was the many students he was able to teach piano to over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emma Riggs Rogers and by five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of Fifty-one years, Elizabeth Sammons Rogers, sister-in-law, Anna Burke of Chelyan, niece, Rita Bowles of Glasgow, nephews, James Burke of East Bank, Eddie Burke of Charleston and Phil Rogers of Sellersburg, Indiana along with a host of great-nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted by Pastor Teresa Walldeck on Monday at 11am at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery in Huntington. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-8pm.
