William "Bill' "Cricket" Asbury

William H. “Bill” “Cricket” Asbury, 56, of Catlettsburg, KY, was born on October 18, 1967 in Bluefield, WV and passed away at his residence after a long illness to be with His Lord and loved ones on August 3, 2024.

He was a disabled veteran from the US Army who loved God, his country, family and life. He was a strong, brave fighter not only while serving in the Army but also after becoming disabled as he battled diabetes and many other illnesses for over 35 years. Despite his illness and suffering, he maintained a positive attitude and he had a great sense of humor which helped him and others to keep laughing regardless of what was going on. He loved helping people and would do whatever he could to make their lives easier. He loved life and made the very best of it. He will be missed by many.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie R. Rowland of Catlettsburg, KY; his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Ellen Lawson and his paternal grandparents, Richard and Nan Asbury. Left to survive him are his father William F. Asbury and stepmother Patty G Asbury, both of Abb’s Valley, Virginia; brother, Todd Asbury (Melissa Ann) of Bristol, Virginia; sister Melissa K. Hypes (Jason) of Boones Mill, Virginia; nephews, Blake, Christian, Noah, and Jake; nieces, Maggie and Sadie; several aunts, uncles and cousins; many friends; and his beloved dog, Tiny.

At his request, he will be cremated and his ashes will be spread along with his mother’s at his maternal grandparent’s gravesite in Abb’s Valley, Virginia at a private gathering of immediate family at a date in the future. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to St. Jude’s Medical Center.
